Now that the excitement of the EVO 4G announce has finally worn off, it’s time to get down to more practical matters — in a street fight, would the WiMAX-powered beast hold its own against an HD2 and a Desire, for example? We had all three in a room just now, and here’s what we’ve got to say:
- It feels significantly beefier than the HD2, but in reality, it’s not — it’s just a single millimeter thicker. The brushed metal back of the HD2 is a little sexier, but just by the tiniest of margins; it’s hard to argue with soft touch and a kickstand, obviously.
- We would’ve never noticed this without the Desire next to it, but the EVO’s text is pretty huge, a side effect of the fact that it’s running the same resolution on a screen 0.6 inches larger. It’s not annoying, really, but it struck us that they could’ve comfortably fit quite a bit more information on the screen without getting cramped. The Desire’s display is more vibrant, too, but that makes sense — we’re indoors under artificial lighting and the Desire has AMOLED on board.
- The EVO’s got touch-sensitive buttons below the display that function much like the Nexus One’s, but no worries: they work quite a bit better. We think this might be because there’s more touch-sensitive bezel real estate below the keys; on the Nexus One, you’ve got to be far too accurate for comfort.
- Interestingly, this is the first EVO we’ve seen today with a silver earpiece grill — Sprint’s have been red. We’ve confirmed with HTC that production devices will be silver.

I recently came accross your website and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my very first remark. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this website very frequently.
Bought a new Desire about a month ago as a business phone but am very disappointed , firstly i would have about 900 contacts on my previous XDA and was able to view by business or personal, not so on Desire only by personal which is of no use particularly with no search option either. Android 2.2 is supposed to have search facility but not different view option launch date seems to differ each time . Battery pretty good approx 18 hrs medium usage. Bluetooth poor, paired with parrott car kit ok for day or so however won’t connect even by unpairing and pairing new, same issue with bluetooth headset……..any ideas
I am one of those individuals who puts their whole life on their cell phone so I received a Centro way back when and loved it- so customizable (color coding things like calendar appointments is a MUST for me) and effortless to use. The Pre came out and I was loving it… but… well… it just lacked some ‘me’ things. So, any time I noticed all that Android could do…. well I was quite excited. I was blessed to have found 1 cell phone left in stock at a Radio Shack 40 miles away last weekend and I’ve been playing and customizing ever since.
Sure I would like the elements on the house srceen with news updates, sure I would like contacts visable at any given time, I desire a educate app, a flight app, a road congestion standing app and sure I need a phone if you want to respond to my every command and no longer dangle/freeze or shutdown like my provide Nokia E72 or my earlier Blackberry Bold.
I am having a problem getting posts from here onto my Blackberry, can someone here let me know how to do this? My Nosey boss monitors where we go online, and I like to read posts from here while at work. Thanks for any help.
