Downloaded Air Video myself – some thoughts
What’s this all about
Basically, you can watch all your video content from your PC to your iPhone / iPod Touch – without the need to convert copy the files to your handheld; So long as the PC and your iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, you can stream your entire video collection.
Installation and Performance
Installation of the server application is a breeze (7mb), as well as the iPhone app (400kb). Once you’ve set up the “Watch list” folder on your PC and add it up to your iPhone, you’re all set.
Streaming the video through Live Conversion (for those downloaded .avi files) was seamless, no lag on the playback. This should be your first option, even though you can perform a conversion prior to watching, which takes about 5 minutes (20 min video).
Paid vs. Free
- The free version randomly shows 3 of your shared items, if what you want to watch isn’t there, you have to keep refreshing
- The paid version ($2.99) lists everything for you conveniently from any folder you shared from your video system library.
Bottom Line
If you want to watch your video collection wherever you are, this isn’t for you. If you want to watch your video collection anywhere in your house (same wifi connection as your PC), then this app is a dream come true.
